Peter Juma Manyala Memorial Scholarship:
The late Peter Juma Manyala dedicated twenty years of his life to community development. He acted as Kirongo’s manager from 2003 to 2006. Under Peter’s leadership, Kirongo grew into the thriving, community-based organization that it is today. Shortly before his death, he graduated with a certificate in public health from the Tropical Institute for Community Health in Kisumu. In order to obtain this certification, he traveled to the city every weekend to study. During the week, he used what he learned in school to inform his managerial work at Kirongo and to develop his fieldwork back home in his village.
Rowe Charities aims to develop a new scholarship in honor of Peter’s memory. The recipient will be chosen by community members for his/her academic potential, citizenship, and commitment to improving quality of life in the village. The scholar will receive training in a community development component of his/her choice. After completing training, s/he wil l return to the Kirongo Christian Integrated Community Project to dedicate one year of community service to the village that fostered him/her. After his/her service has ended, s/he is free to seek employment on his/her own, making way for another scholar to take his/her place. We are now accepting donations for this new scholarship.
